Piercing

How much are your piercings?

Why, we have a handy little chart right here

Is it going to hurt?

Yes!

getting a piercing or a tattoo is not a painless thing. But it is worth it!

Most people agree that most piercings just feel like a pinch. It hurts for, literally, one second and then it is over.

Tattoos definitely take longer, but most people can agree that they are totally bearable.

The bottom line is that a piercing or a tattoo will feel like something- it is supposed to!- And that is a part of the process. Come in with a positive outlook and you can definitely handle it.

How do I take out my nostril jewelry?

Like we outlined in our jewelry section, our nostril jewelry is unique! Rather than using a one-piece style of jewelry like a nostril screw, we use a two-piece system that actually snaps together. This way you can be pierced with whatever end you want, with a comfortable backing that fits. This makes your jewelry more stable during the healing process, and also lets us fit you with something perfectly once it's all nice and healed.

To actually take the jewelry apart, you will need to :

Can I bring my child(ren) to my appointment?

In short, no.

Some of us like kids – heck, some of us have kids – but our tattoo and piercing areas aren’t kid-friendly.  Similarly, our staff aren’t babysitters; so while children are welcome to wait in the lobby, they MUST be accompanied by a guardian AT ALL TIMES.  There are no exceptions to these rules.  Thank you for your cooperation.

How much do your piercings cost?

A chart of most of our common piercing prices can be found here.

Please note that the prices will vary depending on which piece of jewelry you decide to be pierced with!

What are your ID requirements?

In order to get either a piercing or a tattoo at Strange City you must provide one of the two following:

  • Piece of government issued photo identification (Driver's License*, Passport, Identification Card, etc)
  • Piece of government issued non-photo identification (Birth Certificate, Alberta Health Care, etc) accompanied by supporting reputable photo identification (School ID, Club Card, etc)

*Please note that a temporary Driver's License is not a valid piece of ID. Please plan ahead to bring a different piece of ID that complies with our ID requirements.

I am pregnant. Do I need to remove my navel jewelry?

In our experience, most woman reach a point where the skin begins to stretch, and their piercing begins to show signs of irritation. If the jewelry is removed at the first sign of stress,(or before), it can easily be reinserted after the pregnancy. At your earliest convenience, just bring your jewelry back to us and we will reinsert it. It generally will only require a slight stretch to put it back in.

I am looking for a specific piece of jewelry. Does Strange City do custom orders?

We will place custom orders whenever possible. Some of our manufacturers are only ordered from a couple of times per year, and with shipping costs, it can get quite expensive to order a single piece of jewelry.  But we will happily refer you to online resources that are trusted and where you can obtain quality jewelry, and help you with any sizes or measurements you may need to know.  For our manufacturers that we order from more frequently, we will gladly place custom orders if you leave a 50% deposit, and have a little bit of patience.

How can I tell if my piercing is migrating?

Generally speaking, if a piercing is happy and healthy, it is not going to up and migrate. This is why, at Strange City, we only use implant grade jewelry, we only use jewelry that is an appropriate size and style for each specific piercing, and we will only do a piercing if we feel that you are anatomically suited to fully heal your piercing. This way, the chances of you actually having your piercing migrate are greatly minimized. That being said, it is possible for some piercings to migrate anyways.

How do I start stretching my ear lobes?

There is something very important that you should know before you start stretching your ear lobes: Stretching your ears should *never* be painful.  When you start feeling tenderness in your piercing, it is often a sign of ripping or tearing. When your piercing rips, there will often be scarring that will make stretching more difficult later on, and can also compromise the elasticity of your skin. Continual damaging of your stretching piercings can cause other problems like blow outs, thin spots, and poor circulation.
